I’ve been waiting for something truly inspiring to write about for my first real post but I’m realizing this could take a while :) So instead, I shall talk about my new drill bits!
The first round of pendants I made over the holidays required a lot of drilling. No problem, I says. I have a dremel! Out comes the dremel. Its soon apparent though that its sadly lacking in accessories, including the collette needed to use the ONE drill bit it came with. Given the current transit strike and subsequent lack of access to any kind of hardware store, the boyfriend and I got creative and pulled out our mighty DeWalt cordless drill. We also had a 1/16″ HS drill bit to go with it. It wasn’t a particularly elegant solution (giant drill, teeeeeny pendant) but it got the job done. Unfortunately, while drilling the very last hole, disaster struck and the poor little bit, bit the dust. I suppose I should count myself lucky that the bit lasted long enough to finish the job. Luckily, last Saturday mom and Jim came to the city and offered me a ride to Lee Valley, who had some itty bitty bits listed on their website, but I don’t think I was quite prepared for how truly and ridiculously small they turned out to be. I left the store with a range of bit sizes, from is-this-really-a-drill-bit-sized up to 1/16″. I’m still stuck using the DeWalt though, which looks even more ridiculous with the new bits. They seem to work just fine, but I suspect its the sheer force of my will that has prevented them from flying apart. :)

Heeh! Hilarious pic :) I guess we should think about getting you Lee Valley GCs as gifts as well, hm?

Ooh, you might also want to consider a pin vice. We bought one for Kim and it’s good for making tiny holes in things

heh, turns out these little guys are useless. Couldn’t drill the metal. Luckily I bought a few, slightly larger ones that do the job great!
