Back when I was trying to come up with a name for my website/business, I knew I wanted to somehow use the image of a raven. Dunno why, I just really like them. However, I didn’t really want to use the word raven (a little bit of googling will show you how overused that is). Eventually I stumbled across a dictionary that listed “conspiracy” as a (somewhat antiquated) term for a group of ravens and thought that was pretty fun. Eventually that lead to a sassy conspiracy… lets face it, ravens are rather sassy birds :) The fact that ravens like to hoard pretty, shiny things sealed the deal for me.
Fast forward to yesterday. Suddenly I need business cards, preferably with a logo on them. Inspiration strikes at 10:30pm to do one of my propaganda style paintings with a pair of raven silhouettes on it, then glue/sew crystals and chains hanging from their beaks. By 1:30am I finally have the raven design drawn up, and all the angles for the sunburst rays measured out and… I’m exhausted. As I was drifting off to sleep, it occurred to me that I could take my drawing, scan it and make it into a digital version! So early this morning I traced my painting, scanned and imported it into illustrator, then into photoshop to add the background and texture to the branch. All in all, I think it looks pretty sharp. My Illustrator skills are laughably poor, but the paths look good enough :)
I’ve rethought the painting slightly too – i think instead of putting the jewelry in their beaks, I’m going to paint the branch silver and cover it in rhinestones (yay rhinestones!) It will be nice to have something like a logo to display whenever I have a sale. :)
