Totoros!
No, this is not part of my 24 projects/24 days challenge (though I DID do projects for Friday to Sunday, just no pictures just yet!).
I made these for darling Nven’s baby shower. Her nursery theme is Totoro and Winnie the Pooh, so Erika tackled WTP and I took on Totoro. They’re done in acrylics and sealed with a thick layer of resin. O Totoro (16×20″) did not coat well the first time around (you can sort of see this in the picture where the painting are stacked) so I added a second coat of resin and now its pretty much perfect :) Chu Totoro is on a 10×10″ canvas and Chibi Totoro is on an 8×8″ canvas. They’re super glossy and bright in person, but the gloss makes it pretty tricky to photograph and makes the colours look a little streaky in places.
This is probably the biggest painting project I’ve taken on to date – O Totoro took me around 30 hours alone. O Totoro is much larger than I’ve ever done too (dear boy picked the canvases as his contribution to the project and would accept no compromise to his artistic vision!) It takes an unreasonable number of coats to get a good solid colour, and painting all the black line work… my hands are rather shaky :) Oh and mixing the colours… all in all it was quite the learning experience. But I love how they came out and am a little sad to see them gone. The last photo shows how they are hung on the nursery wall – hopefully the baby will think they’re cute and not scary ;)
