24 projects in 24 days: projects #6-10
Ok, finally posting up the rest of my 24 projects in 24 days stuff :) They were actually done within the 24 day period (which seems like such a long time ago) but due to lots of reasons I’m sure you don’t care about, I just didn’t get them online in a timely manner. Sorry about that :)
Projects 6-10: spoon rings
Scarlet Letter spoon ring – made from an antique Ryrie (a Canadian silverware company) sterling silver spoon, bearing a monogrammed A (pattern: Saxon)
Deer Crest spoon ring – made from an antique Birks sterling silver spoon ring with deer family crest (pattern: Old English)
Monogrammed spoon ring – made from an antique sterling silver spoon (I forget what the hallmark was)
London spoon ring – made from an antique Birks sterling silver spoon (pattern: London)
Rose Bower spoon ring – made from an antique Birks sterling silver spoon (pattern: Rose Bower)
Thoughts: The Birks rings are definately my favorite – they’re very weighty and smooth, and look quite elegant. They’re also rather challenging to shape given how thick the metal is, so they’re a lot more work. I heated/quenched them three times each before I managed to get them nice and round, and there was no lack of swearing involved. An additional benefit to the heating process though is that I’ve been able to maintain the hallmarks quite well, unlike with the first few I made.
