mini orchids!
I bought a couple of large apothecary jars back in December when I first started seeing terrarium projects popping up on Craftster and again on Martha Stewart. Excited, I ventured out to a couple of florists in search of the adorable little orchids Martha uses in her projects and quickly realized it was not going to be so easy to find what I needed. I shelved the project, deciding I should just wait until summer when moss would readily be available in the woods and worry about appropriate plants then. Today I was over at my favorite florist Phulero Dola and lo! MINI ORCHIDS! not only that, but the kind ladies also sold me some charcoal/bark mix and sheet moss. Who knew that mere meters from work I would find everything I needed :)
The orchid, with pot, stands less than 11″ tall! I’m very excited! Here’s Martha’s tut that I’ll be using. All I need now is a little potting soil. This project really excites me because a) it looks so pretty and b) its my kind of gardening! Think about it – the cats can’t get to it, you barely need to water it because its in its own little (mostly) closed environment, and the plants don’t get dusty! Hooray!
Also, Happy St. Patties Day! I wore green!
