Time Warp Nail Challenge 1: Rococo Nails
I’m finally taking the plunge and participating in my first ever nail art challenge, the Let’s Do The Time Warp Challenge hosted by Neverland Nail Blog. There are eight themed manicures total for the challenge (two per week), all based on a central old-fashioned/vintage/nostalgic theme (you can see all of the challenges at the link above).
The first installment of the challenge is I Should Have Been Born In…, where we were asked to create a manicure inspired by the year or decade we wished we could have lived in. I decided to do a French Rococo theme (lets say 1730s), inspired by some of the beautiful art and architecture from that period. Now, I’m not sure I would have wanted to live during that time in history exactly… maybe if I was extremely wealthy… but wouldn’t it have been amazing to see? The sheer opulence of it is just unreal.
The base of this manicure is China Glaze White on White, with Deborah Lippmann Boom Boom Pow on the accent nails (what better polish for this theme than one with actual 24K gold in it?!). The gradient nails are done with China Glaze For Audrey, and are stamped with Essie Good As Gold from the recent Mirror Metallics Collection, using Konad plate M83. A quick note about Good as Gold: I avoided this collection entirely when it first came out because reviews were really underwhelming. But I think what made them so unappealing as polishes (their thick, unforgiving formulas) has made them amazing for stamping. I’m REALLY happy with how the stamping turned out, so much so that I went out and picked up a bottle of No Place Like Chrome, the silver one, for stamping. These are both way, way better than the Konad Special Polishes Gold or Silver, so I highly recommend picking them up if you stamp.
