Today’s manicure is a quick ruffian: this is a base of China Glaze Orange Knockout, followed by one coat each of China Glaze White on White and Revlon Royal. Husband picked the colours, which look great together I think. :)

Happy Valentine’s Day, Happy Wing Day, Happy Thursday… whichever you choose, I wish you a lovely day! This V-Day manicure is pretty much the same design I did last year, but I kind of love it way more in these colours. The base is Deborah Lippmann Naked, and the heart tips are China Glaze Beauty Within, from their 2012 Breast Cancer Awareness Collection, United in Purpose.

Jungle Queen Leopard Manicure

Here’s a quick and dirty manicure: the base is China Glaze Jungle Queen, with Pelican Grey and Liquid Leather leopard spots. From a distance it reads more like camouflage – I think I should have used something other than black to make it pop a little more.
We’re currently doing Apartment Therapy’s January Cure Challenge (though we’re about 3 weeks behind the pack… who are done now…), so my nails are taking a cleaning beating. The Challenge itself has been wonderful though – I really recommend trying it. Nails will recover eventually ;)

Bone Pit French Tips

I was recently contacted by Ria, from the blog Brush Me Blush, about a 30 day series of French manicure inspired nail art tutorials she is running and she asked if I would be interested in trying out one of her tutorials. I think this is a super fun idea – I’m not the biggest fan of French tips, but she has some pretty inspiring ideas in the series. I settled on her Day 16 tutorial – The Dead French – and gave it a shot. For the base I’ve used OPI My Pointe Exactly (from the New York Ballet Soft Shades 2012 Collection), that lovely pale grey jelly that (I think) was the star of the collection. This is the first time I’ve worn it, and I liked it so much I actually put off the nail art for a day just to enjoy this pretty colour on its own. The gradient uses China Glaze Elephant Walk, ChG Concrete Catwalk, ChG Liquid Leather, and ChG Bizarre Blurple. Now, up to this point I’ve always done nail art using nail polish. I don’t know why, I just thought it should be done that way. I started my thumb using ChG Liquid Leather and ChG White on White, quickly discovered I was out of polish thinner, and broke out the acrylic paint instead. Which I should have done, like, two nail art competitions ago. Wow, it’s so much easier. I’ve included my right hand in one picture too, since I’m often asked what I do on my non-dominant hand. I rarely bother with anything intricate: this is OPI My Pointe Exactly and one coat of Lynnderella Connect the Dots.

Holiday Nail Art Challenge 3: Trim the Tree!!

This manicure is for the third and final installment of the Holiday Nail Art Challenge hosted by NailPolishCanada. The theme for the week is Trim the Tree: Lights, ornaments, tinsel, frosting, heck, even popcorn on a string if that’s your thing. Let’s see your nails all dolled up like a Christmas Tree! The design for this challenge was inspired by Chalkboard Nails‘ amazing Eye of Sauron manicure which is, hands down, one of my favorite manicures ever. I chose to do a Christmas tree in the snow at night, one of my favorite holiday sights – it always makes me feel warm and fuzzy :)

The gradient is done with OPI Banana Bandana, OPI Unfor-Greta-Bly Blue, and A-England Lady of Shallot, using a foam sponge. The lights on the trees are glitters I fished out Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday and Cherimoya Fire Work. I love how sparkly the little tree is!
